The One Truthiness {Oakland:1}
Text and images from one of the eight episodes of the participatory performance series called The One Truthiness.
The One Truthiness juxtaposes first-personal quotes about Americans’ experiences of the world and how they differ (or don’t) by race. Investigating the experiences behind opinion and invective, The One Truthiness illuminates the world that includes all of our experiences and how we project our own truths onto others.
The series includes episodes about safety, education, allyship, and trust. This episode, the first of the Oakland series, touches on perspectives of this major American city with a long and conscious racial history, safety, and gentrification. Learn more about the series >
Second Place
Created with Natalie Brewster Nguyen. Text from the performance and sound installation titled Second Place.
Second Place combines facts and stories of migration, refugees, the hero’s journey, to explore change, identity, and dislocation.
The following texts were crafted for live performances, but they are not plays in any traditional sense. They are non-linear, poetic, creative non-fiction, embedding facts and quotes into a swirling, multi-voice narrative.
