Scale matters. Installations allow the viewer to be the figure in the painting. When the work itself is larger than human-scale, the viewer is immersed in a sensory experience. Such a visceral experience can change our view of the world because we interact with the art in the same way we interact with our own day to day environment. Building installations like these inspired me to collaborate with performing artists to create meaning through the shape and action of live bodies. Comments?
